TDSB Students Stand Up for our National Anthem! O Canada is one of the country’s most beloved songs. It’s a song students and teachers hear every morning at school. Now, students at Georges Vanier SS are celebrating the release of a CD compilation of 11 versions of our national anthem.
Members of the One World Youth Arts Project created the CD with an objective – to have schools across the country use it every day. The project has been successful thanks to the support of the TDSB Education/Sector Council Partnership Project. The CD includes five additional instrumental accompaniment tracks that can be used by school choirs and soloists in public performances.
More information about One World is available at the Georges Vanier Secondary School website. Samples of the recordings can be heard here. (.mp3 file)
Schools that would like to have their own copy of this compact disk may contact Steve Lashbrook for information.
The One World Youth Arts Project is one of the specialized programs offered at Georges Vanier Secondary School. In the One World program, students develop music creation, performance and production skills in a state-of-the-art production facility. Social justice and character education are very important elements. One World students have participated in many TDSB arts and social justice initiatives including Dare 2 Dance and TDSB Idol. They are also significant contributors to the TDSB’s annual Keeping the Dream Alive tribute to Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr., held at Roy Thomson Hall each January.
